Beginning Spring 2022, Channel Marker will implement a new Residential Crisis Beds service to address the needs of individuals who are seeking stabilization through acute, non-emergent crisis support services.
Recognizing the pressing need for a less traumatic alternative to psychiatric hospitalization on the Mid-Shore, Channel Marker has developed plans to raise $1 million to add an eight-bed crisis facility
within its Glebe Park Drive headquarters in Easton.
The need is great. Currently the nearest similar crisis facilities are located in Somerset and Anne Arundel Counties, leaving a dearth of treatment options in Talbot, Caroline, and Dorchester Counties. When complete, this new facility will allow faster access to appropriate, therapeutic care and ease the burden on local hospitals.
By locating this new facility in the Glebe Park Drive headquarters, Channel Marker will ensure coordination of care is maximized, clients can be easily transitioned from one level of care to another, on-site clinical support will be available around the clock, and coordination among other mental health services in the region will be strengthened.
With its own private exterior entrance, this new facility will include seven bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a kitchen-lounge area in close proximity to each other. The new facility will also offer access to an exercise room, computer lounge, state-of-the-art kitchen, social areas, a meditative courtyard, and future walking paths on property. Recreational activities available to clients also include billiards tables, a basketball hoop, gazebo, picnic tables, TVs and gaming systems, and choices of multiple lounge areas. Additionally, spaces for arts and crafts, a clothing lending closet, group meeting space, and a large dining area will be accessible to clients. The new facility will fully meet ADA accessibility standards and will be equipped with security and sprinkler systems.
Initial costs, including construction, furnishings, and equipment, a new mini-van, start-up costs, and initial operating expenses before new revenue streams cover them are estimated at $675,000. The $1 million goal will also include $325,000 to create an endowment to sustain the new facility over time.
A shared kitchen-lounge area will feature a stove, refrigerator, and sink. This important gathering space can be named with a gift of $50,000.
Donors are also invited to consider naming each private bedroom with a gift of $25,000. Bedrooms feature a window overlooking the scenic, private woods that surround the building.
Three shared bathrooms are also available for naming with a gift of $10,000 each.
Donors wishing to support the ADA, security, and sprinkler systems will be recognized with a gift of $5,000.
To sustain this facility, Channel Marker seeks to create an endowment of $325,000.
Channel Marker also welcomes smaller gifts in any amount. All donors are valuable to us and we thank you for considering supporting this important new facility.
